I heard the news of children being gunned down in Connecticut today and it made me want to crawl into bed and cry. The capacity for human violence is shocking.
These things weigh heavily on my constitution, and if I’m not careful with my emotions, I get swept up in them. In defense of myself I can’t watch the coverage. Instead, I have a technique I use called ‘hugging in.’
It’s a mindset that allows in only the good and shields me from the dark. It’s not the right way, it just works for me.
So I grabbed my camera, and snapped a few pictures of the bounty of my little yard. The flowers and lizards, and mushrooms reminded me that everything that is good in the world is still there; despite what happened today in Connecticut.
When things don’t make sense to me I always turn to a book called ‘When Bad Things Happen To Good People’ by Rabbi Harold Kushner. He explains a world view that left me O.K. with the universe, despite days like today. I highly recommend it. You can get it on Amazon HERE.
