The Woody Allen approach to Mercury in retrograde

Mercury goes into retrograde (MIR) as of this morning, and stays there until July 20th. Have you already been feeling its maddening effects?

  • slow starts
  • frustrated attempts
  • miscommunication
  • mix-ups
  • delays

MIR is the apparent backward motion of the planet Mercury that manifests itself here on Earth by screwing up your best intentions to get anywhere, say anything, or do anything new.

(Confused? Go here first.) MIR has messed with me so many times that I now put the retrograde dates into my calendar so I can try to mentally prepare.

I take the Woody Allen approach during MIR and assume I’m fu^*ed in everything. It’s better resemble Woody (dazed and slightly depressed) than Edward Munch’s “The Scream,” don’t you think?

Mercury In Retrograde: The Woody Allen Approach

In fact re-watchnig Woody Allen films isn’t a bad idea because the best approach to life during MIR is to downshift into the RE-minset until it’s over:

re-read

reset

re-check

remind

receive

revise

repeat

review

recall

re-do

relate

renew

renegotiate

remove

release

re-schedule

MIR is a built-in sabbatical opportunity to look closely at how you react to the unforeseen. It  also shines a light on the dusty corners of your life; and gives pause (because it screwed up your plans, got you stuck in traffic, or misunderstood by your boss) to attend to things both neglected and unfinished. I’m starting with the silverware drawer.

You?
