Saturday we are taking the kids to the Morikami Museum for the Obon Lantern Festival. Obon is a Japanese cultural celebration that welcomes back spirits who have passed away with an evening of fun and music. There will be Taiiko drumming, pan-Asian food, saké, and dancing. At the end of the festival, lanterns inscribed with messages to loved ones are set adrift on Morikami Pond, sending spirits back to the afterworld as fireworks light the way. All that and a full-ish evening moonrise! It’s a great way to start the last quarter of the year; reconnecting with and honoring loved ones who have passed away in such a positive and beautiful way.
Whatever you are up to this weekend I hope you get to enjoy the moonlight wherever you are. I’ve gathered some interesting and fun links for you from my web travels this week. Have a lovely and restful weekend!
