We finally made it to Grenada last week. Because my trip was shortened, I wasn't able to tour around as much as I wanted, but I did learn
4 Surprising Things about Grenada:
- The Captain, who's been almost everywhere, declared Grenada is the friendliest place in the Caribbean. I agree. Smiles and waves abound here.
- It was NOT hot there in late July! There were lovely breezes all day long (by the ocean), and although the sun was hot, it was certainly much more humid and hot in Florida and New England that week. What a nice surprise.
- Did you know Grenada lies only 90 miles from the coast of Venezuela? This southern location means the island is relatively protected from hurricanes.
- The friendly people of Grenada drive like maniacs (left hand side of the road) and beep the horn for any sort of reason. To pull in, out, say hello, and give notice they are about to pass you uphill going at a very fast rate of speed (with no idea who or what is coming up the hill on the other side), and for any other reason at all they beep the horn. Being honest it's usually a happy succession of beeps. To drive in Grenada you must suspend the laws of physics and believe that every car, person, and dog will all fit on the narrow road. And it does.
p.s. more pictures to come.
